Patricia A. “Pat” Brant is currently serving a 5th term as Somerset County Recorder of Deeds. Pat and her husband, Chuck, reside on Wills Church Road in Somerset Township, Somerset County, Pennsylvania. They are the parents of three children, Brad, Brenda and Beth and four grandchildren, Ashley and Adam Brant and Allison and Anna Lane.

Pat oversees an office, which, in 2006, collected revenues of $395,188.00 and brought in $3,826,322.00 in real estate transfer tax. Of that 3.8 million dollars, 1% is paid to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, 1% stays right here in Somerset County being divided among local municipalities and school districts. “It is a busy office, but my staff and I take pride in efficient public service and realize the importance of accurately preserving valuable and historic documents,” Brant commented.

In 1999, the Recorder’s Office began scanning the daily recordings and in 2000, all of the documents from the present to 1985 were back-scanned into the system; deeds from the 1950’s and ‘60’s were recreated to preserve their clarity. All of the back scanning and the recreation of the documents were done “in-house”, assuring accuracy at a considerable savings to the taxpayers. In 2005, all of the records from 1985 to the present were formatted and made available to the public on the Internet. Last year, the Military Discharge Books were recreated and committed to CD’s, with the original documents safely stored for security purposes.

Pat is active in the Pennsylvania Recorder of Deeds Association leadership, repeatedly named to serve on its Executive Board. Pat was hostess of the Recorder’s Statewide Convention at Seven Springs Resort in 1996 and 2003. She also serves on the Board of Directors of the Somerset County Affordable Housing; the Executive Committee of the Somerset County Republican Party and the Forbes Trail District Committee of the Boy Scouts of American, receiving the Boy Scout’s inaugural “Salute to Women” award in 2000. She is also a member of the Soroptomist Club of Somerset County.
