Sharon Ackerman was first elected to serve as Somerset County Register of Wills and Clerk of the Orphans’ Court in November 2003. From her first day as an elected official, she has initiated many reforms to make the office more efficient and transparent. The enhancements to both constituent service and technology have created a public venue that provides the highest level of service with a personal effort to attend to each person served.
Since her election, Sharon has worked tirelessly on behalf of the Registers of Wills and Clerks of Orphans’ Court Association of Pennsylvania. She served as president from July 2012 to July 2013. Sharon was elected secretary of the association in July 2013 and has served on its Legislative Committee and Executive Board since 2004.
Sharon is as passionate about her community as she is in her professional life. She holds leadership positions in many local organizations including the Meyersdale Area Merchants’ Association, Meyersdale Public Library, and the Meyersdale Area Union Cemetery Association. Sharon also serves on the I-68 to Meyersdale Community Action Committee; Somerset County Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee, and the Somerset County Federated Library Board.
In recognition of her leadership and community service, Sharon was named "Individual of the Year" by the Meyersdale Area Merchants' Association in 2012.
Sharon loves living in the same area where she grew up – in Summit Township, along with her husband, Dan. They are the proud parents of Technical Sgt. Daniel S. Ackerman, U. S. Air Force, and Brock R. Ackerman, a graduate of Meyersdale Area School District and Somerset County Technology Center.
